How to Keep Your Fridge Clean and Organized

We love our kitchens. Here at Handler Homes, we enjoy designing open concept kitchens that include large, welcoming islands. We do this because we know this is where people love to gather. After school kids gather for snacks, and during get-togethers friends and family congregate around the kitchen. It is safe to say that this room gets a lot of use. Along with that, the kitchen appliances also get a lot of attention. One of the main stars being the refrigerator. So, between drips and spills, how can you keep this keeper of foods clean and tidy? We want to share a few handy ways you can do just that.

Line Your Shelves

If you hate putting on your rubber gloves and scrubbing your fridge, you are not alone. An easy way to reduce the times that that chore comes around is by lining your shelves with cling wrap. BBQ sauce spilled? Simply peel off the wrap, throw it out, and replace it. Voila!

Keep Leftovers at Eye Level

It is easy for Tupperware to get shoved to the back of the fridge and consequently be forgotten about. You may only be reminded of your leftovers after you start to smell them. To avoid this, keep items that need to be eaten first in front and at eye level.

Use Baskets to Organize Food

Clear bins can easily be found at your local Marshall’s or other discount store. You can use these to organize your food into groups, such as, meats, cheeses, and veggies. This will not only help your fridge to look neater, but it will also help you to be able to account for what for you have, what needs to be used, or what you do or do not need more of.

Wipe Down Bottles

Although simple, if a jar or bottle is sticky on the outside, be sure to give it a quick wipe down. In the end, this will take you a few seconds and it will make a big difference in the cleanliness of your fridge. As a side note, if you have noticed pesky crumbs in the rear of your fridge or in your fridge drawers, you can simply grab your vacuum to tidy up those hard to reach spaces.

That’s it. Just a few simple tricks you can incorporate into your routine to assist in keeping your fridge in order. If you are in the market for a new home and are dreaming of a brilliant kitchen, call us at Handler Homes today! We would love to show you that with a custom home, you can have it all.
